Every year, students drive to MHS with a risk of getting hit or hitting someone else. But if you do get in a wreck on school property what should you do?

“Call the police so we can come out and make sure everyone’s information is correct. If it is on a public road we are gonna come out and see who is at fault and who should be charged, we don’t do that on private property,” Officer Boivie said.

Accidents can happen year-round, but during the winter, the chances greatly increase due to slick conditions.

“The main reason is that when people see a speed limit sign, they think it is all year round, but in Idaho, there is a code called ‘too fast for conditions’. If you stop and slide into someone, and say you were only going 15 in a 35, you were still at fault because your speed was too fast for conditions,” Officer Boivie said.

Most people think that getting in an accident is the end of the world, but it is far from it. If you decide it is better to take off and not decide to deal with the vehicle you hit, you are in for one.

“Hit and run, which is a misdemeanor which is an arrestable offense, you won’t go to jail for it but you would be given a court date and if you don’t show up, you would get a warrant for your arrest,” Officer Boivie said.
