The trimester is coming to an end in a few weeks and it is time for the Smartie Trials. Senior Grayson Johnson is part of the trial in Mrs. Wolfe’s class.

“The smarties trials is a mock criminal case with dealers, buyers, police, and lawyers,” Johnson said.

There are also clerks which keep court records evidence. Also, bailiffs call court to order, swear in jury, and swear in witnesses. Lastly, reporters report everything that happens. Sellers start selling to the buyers and the police try to catch them until they have evidence. They sell smarties to be represented as drugs.

“Once they have evidence they go to court and people have lawyers and defense attorneys,” Johnson said.

The students in the class are randomly assigned to their positions in the case and they have to keep it a secret. All seven of the positions are really important roles to play out.

“I’m really excited because it has been really fun so far,” Johnson said.

This is a great way for students to learn about how the government works by going through the process.

“It is a chance to experience the government in a fun way,” Johnson said.
