As students arrived to school early Tuesday morning, they may have noticed some black smoke billowing above the school or a fire on the north grounds of MHS campus. Questions quickly arose around school questioning the purpose of the fire. Madison School District’s Ground Supervisor, Jeff Orme gave Bobcat Beat insights on the fiery blaze.

“Everything that we trim off the trees district wide comes out here. We try to burn it once a year, so it doesn’t get too big,” Orme said.

There are many ways to dispose of the excess of branches that we have district wide. Burning them helps the district in more ways people may think.

“What we are doing here is saving the district thousands of dollars in landfill fees,” Orme said.

Since fire is usually associated with danger. Students are reminded, that the burn is controlled and safe.

“It is perfectly safe. We have a set up an area around it the will not burn,” Orme said.
