The Fabulous Faces Behind Fahrenheit

The MHS theater’s Fahrenheit 451 play is right around the corner. Cast and crew are working hard in order to get themselves ready for April 21st – the first showing.

“It is kinda time consuming but it all adds up. We practice a couple times a week after school for a couple hours,” Sophomore Lillyan Lauritzen said.

Along with the frequency of practices, cast members are given no simple tasks when they rehearse

“We go through our whole entire act, which is a bunch of different scenes, a whole bunch of moving scenes on and off stage, getting everyone’s lines memorized; there’s just a lot that goes on,” Lauritzen said.

With all the scenes, lines, and communication within the cast, pressure can build quickly, so some look to seasoned actors for inspiration.

“Somebody working on the play would probably be Abby [Green] just because she’s an amazing actress and it’s just really fun to watch her act,” Lauritzen said.

Fahrenheit 451 presents a unique opportunity for students to discover and interpret their role to make it their own.

“I really like the symbolic meaning she [Clarisse McLellan] plays because she isn’t a huge character but she has a really big symbolic meaning in the play, and I really like using the little time I have on stage to create an impression on the audience,” Junior Rose Cameron said.

Along with developing a personal relationship with the characters they play, students create lasting friendships with fellow cast members.

“They’re the best. I love them so much. They’re super fun to hang out with and they’re just the kind of people who are always super uplifting and we play lots of games after rehearsal so it’s fun,” Cameron said.

The feeling of camaraderie is present for everybody that participates in the play, and that’s what makes theater special for so many people.

“My favorite part would just be the connections with everybody. It’s just really fun to be around everybody and make new friends and get to know everybody. It’s just really fun,” Lauritzen said.
