With a great team comes a great game. Tuesday night at 7:30 the Madison Bobcats stepped out onto their home basketball court to play their fifth game of the season, beating the Idaho Falls Tigers 69-25. The starting five were Logan Crane, Tyson Lerwill, Braxton Pierce, Taden King, and Eli Randall. The first points of the game went to Madison from Braxton Pierce. From there it just got better and better. The Bobcats were able to lead the game for the first three and a half minutes with a score of 9-0. The entire first quarter consisted of the Madison Bobcats racking up the points and by the end, the Bobcats were still in the lead by an impressive 14 points with the score being 20-6. Travis Schwab, Madison’s head coach, said, “ I loved the way we started, I loved the way we came out, just the intensity of it.” This just goes to show that the first quarter of this game was most definitely a great start to a basketball game.

The second quarter of the game was much like the first. The Bobcats started with the ball and took advantage of every time they had it. During this part of the game it was easy to tell that Madison’s team had very good chemistry. They worked well together and communicated easily. Even one of the players, Rhett Hathaway, said, “ My favorite part about basketball in general is playing with the team. We have really good chemistry.” By the time the second quarter was done, the score was 36-13 with the Bobcats in the lead.

As the third quarter of the game started you could tell that it was going to be a good one. Both teams were definitely focused on the game. Idaho Falls made 12 points during this section while Madison made double that amount. One of the main reasons they were doing so good was because of the energy that was created during the quarter. Because of Covid-19, there aren’t many fans there to watch. The crowd is one of the main sources of energy so the team had to create their own. Rhett Hathaway said that the way he is able to promote energy is, “Just always having energy on the bench and bringing energy to the team even though the fans aren’t there.”

The last quarter of the game completely wrapped up a great game. The game ended with the Bobcats dominating 69-25. This was mainly made possible by the Bobcat’s defense throughout the game. Coach Schwab said, “ Our defense was phenomenal. I mean to hold them to 24 points! It’s incredible.” Madison’s next Basketball game will be on Thursday, December 7th.
