Harvesting Tan Lines, Not Spuds
For most people in Idaho, Spud Harvest is about harvesting potatoes and binging Netflix shows, but for others, it’s about traveling across the land, exploring new horizons and dipping your toes in different waters. Emma Sutherland is a sophomore here at MHS who had the opportunity to go to Kauai, Hawaii.
“We went zip lining, and it was super fun. It was pouring rain, but it was warm rain. We got soaked zip lining,” Sutherland said.
She stayed there for a week, and in that time, she embraced her sea legs. She soaked up the sun and got her tan on.
“The funnest part was just… being able to lay in the sand and not worry about a thing. School is very stressful,” Sutherland said.
For Sutherland, traveling is just another way to unwind from the strain of daily life. School is a very stressful place and most people take advantage of being able to have a break.
“It was cool, I almost drowned. I swam out and an undercurrent pulled me out. My friends all know that I’m a horrible swimmer,” Sutherland said.
Senior Hailey Mortensen also got the chance to travel overseas during the break.
“I went to France. It was very different. It was warm and we went down the French Riviera. One of my favorite parts definitely was going to the markets,” Mortensen said.
Eating food is always a highlight of the day, and apart from amazing views, France has some flavorful food. Mortensen shares her personal favorite.
“Beignets, like a donut hole, but better,” Mortensen said.
Donut holes and fancy bread aren’t the only snacks in France. The men seem to have a better sense of fashion then most in America “French guys have a lot better style,” Mortensen said.
