Bobcats Kick Off Districts at Home

Yesterday night’s game did not stay very close. The Madison Bobcats beat the Highland Rams 65-35. Besides the tip-off going to Highland, this game was in favor of Madison the whole time, ending the first quarter 10-2 by mainly doing a zone defense.

They pushed their lead further in the second quarter going 28-8 sticking with a zone defense. Highland came back a lot stronger in the third quarter by more than doubling their points when the Cats switched to man-to-man coverage.

At the beginning of the fourth quarter, Head Coach Travis Schwab subbed in all of his bench, which consisted of two JV players Taden King and Wesley Jensen. The bench kept the energy high and finished off the game with Madison scoring 19 points in the final quarter at 65-35.

Madison’s high scoring player Jaden Schwab had 10 points and three assists. Carson Downey had three assists and nine points. Jordan Porter also had nine points, and Kyle Jackson had eight points. Madison ended the game with 10 steals, 13 assists, and only two turnovers. The Bobcats also had 15 team fouls. They hit 54% of 2-point attempts and 47% of 3-point attempts. 

Highland’s two lead scoring players Kobe Tracy, who had two assists and six points, and Nate Carter, who had six points, were 1 of 3 players in the game to make two 3-pointers. Some other key players from the Rams was Cooper Duffin, getting five points and two assists, and Andrew Vansickle getting five points without any fouls.

The Rams ended the game with 14 turnovers and two steals. They hit 44% of 2-point attempts and 33% of 3-point attempts. Highland had a total of five assists, mostly from Tracy and Duffin. They also had 17 team fouls, Cedar Washakie having the most in the game with four, and Driscoll with three.

The Madison Bobcats will move on to play the Rigby Trojans Thursday, Feb. 14th.
