On Saturday, December 1st, the student council went up to Moody, Idaho by themselves to find a Christmas tree for our school.

“We got a little stuck, like not a big deal, and we’re trying to get unstuck, but we end up getting more stuck. We are trying for about 45 minutes using a tow rope, but none of it worked,” Senior Hannah Backstein said.

Lucky for them, there were other campers around to help.

“We looked over and we saw some other campers and they had a truck, so we had them come over and pull us out,” Backstein said.

After being stuck for 2 ½ hours, they went to a different spot to find a tree. They found one just off the road.

“I sat in the Suburban in the middle of the road when these two snowmobiles stopped at John’s car,” Senior Ambree Christensen said. “I look up and they’re staring at me, so I open the door,” Christensen said.

Christensen soon found out that the two men on snowmobiles were Sheriffs.

“We barely did the first stroke {with the ax} when we heard the snowmobiles. I saw the ‘Sheriff’ sign on the back of the snowmobile and I ran up to the car,” Senior John Zenger said. “Then they told us that we can’t cut down that tree,” Zenger said.

To cut down a tree in Idaho, you have to have a permit for that designated area.

“We almost cut {the tree} down, but it turns out it would’ve been an $800 fine,” Zenger said.

The student council was on that adventure for around 5 hours and never got a single tree.
