Bobcats Shred the Grizzlies 61-37

Saturday evening the Madison girls beat Skyline 61-37. The game started slowly and after just a few minutes no one had scored. The teams went running back and forth on the court but the shots wouldn’t drop. Then Skyline’s Erin Jenkins scored to put Skyline up 3-0. The game continued with Skyline in the lead until Madison finally got its first two points. Madison then scored again to lead 5-3. Skyline evened the score at 5-5. As the end of the first quarter approached Brielle Hammond and Bethany Dow scored to put Madison in the lead 9-5.

The second quarter began and Madison got two free throws. The Cats made both and Madison got farther ahead 11-5. The teams went back and forth shooting and scoring.

Halfway through the second quarter Madison was ahead 26-11.

At this point Skyline Coach Ty Keck suggested that his players didn’t seem to care about the game. The Madison girls pushed harder and harder to get farther in the lead and by halftime Madison was ahead 29-13.

In the third quarter Skyline scored, but Madison quickly scored three more times after to build a 35-15 lead. By the end of the third quarter Madison almost had doubled the Grizzlies’ score 43-22. As they went into the final quarter the Skyline girls were trying their hardest and were not giving up.

By the middle of the final quarter Madison was ahead, 57-25. As the last few minutes of the game continued both teams scored. Madison was up 61-34. With only a few seconds on the clock Skyline player Macy Olson had the highlight of the night making shot from half-court.

Madison was very happy with their win and the Skyline girls were happy with their last score. “We knew that we would beat them, but we still had to push harder than we did last time,” said Madison’s Kayeli Wasden. “We prepared for this game to focus on one thing we could do better to help our team out, and not just ourselves to get the win. We all did the little things right and we felt good about how we played.”

The Madison girls worked hard on Saturday and it paid off in the end. They knew it would be a win but were still determined to do their best to prepare for their next games at the Timberline tournament this weekend.
