Four students got to compete on a national level for FFA. This year marked the 90th anniversary of the National Convention.

“The National Convention is an annual convention, on the national level, for the FFA organization. This was the 90th anniversary and right now it is being held in Indianapolis, Indiana. Before that is was in Louisville, Kentucky and also in Kansas City, Missouri,” Mr Wetzel said.

The students that competed were a part of the livestock evaluation division.

“This year it was the livestock evaluation team that went. We had four members that were on that team, Oaklee Cheney, Owen Wetzel, Kabe Clark, and Ryker Riley, and they got to go because they were state champions in the livestock evaluation division,” Mr Wetzel said.

The team had to do a multiple different events against 47 other teams.

“For livestock evaluation, at the national contest, we had 8 regular classes and 3 keep or cull classes. For the regular classes they have 4 animals to a class and you have to choose the best, 2nd best, 3rd best, and 4th best and place them in that order. For the other classes, keep or cull, you keep 4 animals and cull 4 animals,” Senior Owen Wetzel said.

“The convention was pretty good. It was a lot of fun to walk around and meet lots of people from all over the country and see things you normally wouldn’t get to see,” Kabe Clark said.
