Music! Dancing! Acting! The cast and crew behind Madison High’s latest theatrical production, The Music Man, are getting ready to start rehearsals. Emotions are running high, but the Drama Council President Tabitha Lockhart is feeling confident the show will go smoothly.

“I was nervous at first, but after having our first meeting, I feel a lot more confident that we’re going to be able to bring a lot to this musical,” Lockhart said.

The production’s director Robert Hibbard feels the same way.

“I’ve got a really good team, we’ve been together for years. I’m not worried about the kids, the kids always respond really well. They take on that mantle of responsibility and always work hard to bring the show on,” Hibbard said.

The fall musical itself contains colorful characters that really bring the story to life.

“Harold Hill is a con man. You can’t help but liking him, even though he’s conning you out of your money. You know, he does it in such a nice way,” Hibbard said.

But the story isn’t the only reason students do the fall musical every year.

“I’m just excited to be on stage with my friends again. It’s been a while, and it’s just such a good feeling when you just absolutely nail a song, and then you’re all backstage going, ‘Yes! Yes! We did it, we did so good!’ and the audience loves it, and it’s just a really good fun feeling,” Senior Mary Palmer said.

It takes a lot of work to put on these big spectacles every year, but the drama department has got it down to a science. They have a lot of work ahead of them, but by working hard and working together, the cast and crew of The Music Man is hoping they can pull it off without a hitch.

“It’s going to be hopefully fun, and entertaining to watch. But more importantly, I think we’ve got a good team,” Lockhart said.
