This upcoming track season is going to be different than any other in the past. This track season there’s going to be tryouts. Students will be trying out for two teams, the advanced team and the development team. Since there are going to be two teams, there are going to be two separate practices. The advanced team will practice during 5th hour track class. The developmental team will practice after school. The coaches decided to do this so they can coach everyone effectively.

“I think it’s stupid and it won’t really help anything,” Senior Zack Cardon said.

How good you do at tryouts will determine what team you will be put on. Even though you have to try out, everyone will be put on a team and no one will be cut from the team.

“I don’t get why you have to try out when everyone makes the team,” Cardon said.

Now that you have to try out, people will take it more seriously. In previous years there’s been people that don’t really try in practice and don’t take it seriously. These tryouts will hopefully fix that and make people become more competitive.

“This year will be a lot different but it will make us try harder,” Senior Ben Dredge

Tryouts will be held on February 24th-25th in the Bobcat fieldhouse. Sprinters, jumpers and hurdlers will tryout on the 24th and the throwers and distance runners will tryout on the 25th. At the tryouts there will be timed runs, measured jumps and throwing drills. The distance runners will run 1 mile if the weather is decent.
