Ben Dredge started the season as a running back, but answered his coach’s call and was moved to quarterback later in the season.

“It wasn’t as bad because all off season I was training for QB,” Dredge said.

When Head Coach Rhoads made the decision to make him the QB the team had three wins and three losses.

”I had a lot of practice before but It was still scary… I knew that if it was the best thing for the team to win that I could do it,” Dredge said.

After the switch the Bobcats won the next two games in dramatic fashion with Dredge rushing for a game-ending touchdown versus Thunder Ridge in overtime. Then throwing for a game winning touchdown against Idaho Falls. This was all a build up to Madison’s game against our rival, the Rigby Trojans, who hadn’t lost a game during the regular season in two years.

“Surprisingly I was calm. The year before I had to start as a Sophomore… I knew that I had put a lot of work into my body over the off season and felt like I wasn’t going to get pushed around by anyone,” Dredge said.

The first half ended with a touchdown by Madison but Madison was still down 21-7. Dredge said

“I still felt pretty good, the year before we were getting blown out by the first half of the game,” Dredge said.

Coming out of the half Madison scored again to cut the lead to seven.

”I knew that they couldn’t stop us at that point… I had figured out their defense and we were running the ball well and taking shots at Cam and Logan,” Dredge said.

During that second half Madison scored three more times with two more touchdowns and a field goal.

”It was awesome to see the team and players care so much after only one year,” Dredge said.

When Dredge knelt down to run out the clock the team and student section rushed the field.

“When I took the last knee I think I blacked out. It was surreal. I felt all my teammates and the student section around me but all I saw was black,” Dredge said.
