All-State

All-State is put on by the Idaho Music Educators Association. It is a collection of students from all around Idaho that have met the bar to be part of the honors group. Last week there were practices with all the students and then a performance on Saturday. The students that participated learned many things.

“I learned a lot about working together as a choir. We learned about how we should bring emotion into music and not just do it exactly how it says on the page,” Senior Erin Smith said.

There were many experiences that will last a lifetime. People from all over can make great things even after just meeting.

“It’s amazing how so many different people can come together and make something as beautiful as music,” Junior Grant Coleman said.

It takes a lot of practice and dedication to be able to participate. The kids spent most of the school day and after school practicing to make sure they were ready for the performance on Saturday.    

“It was a lot of fun and we met a lot of cool people. Our guest conductor was hilarious and he was all over the place,” Senior Caleb Lyons said. “I play the trombone and we did a lot of difficult pieces. The notes were not really hard, it was just making everything fit the right way and fit the right rhythm.”    

Even though they had to eat, sleep, and dream All-State, most of the kids would agree that the experience was worth it and would do it again.
