4 Day School Weeks

The traditional 5 day school week is driving thoughts on whether or not 4 day school weeks should be standardized in order for students and teachers in need of prioritizing mental health and having longer resets essential for better academic growth. The Bobcat Beat got students and teachers thoughts on this matter.
“I think I would just lock in,” Sophomores Keslie Birch, Ruth Lamoreau, and Emmrie Weeks said.
While some students feel confident they can “lock in,” a 4 day school week raises more concern about the student body as a whole, not just their minds and homework, specifically regarding school resources.
“ It might affect them especially if they are on some of the meal plans for the school or something like that could maybe affect them,” Teacher Mike Stansel said.
Beyond students’ physical necessities of the food and gym there is also a stand in mental recovery regarding the 3 day weekend and if the 4 day school week offers a reset day or if the extra day off makes teachers double the workload with the extra time to assign homework.
“I don’t think they would but I mean, there may be some that would but I think for the most part teachers would just adjust to whatever the school district says as policy, ” Stansel said.
