A bush burning with fire but not consumed, an ocean parted with dry ground in the middle and a live orchestra. What more could you ask for?  Madison High School is performing the Prince of Egypt for the fall musical. This is Mr. Snelgrove’s second year of teaching drama, and he is excited to direct the musical.

“I picked the Prince of Egypt because it’s new, it hasn’t been done here before. When I was looking at the script itself I liked to look for something that can gift students life experience in some way. [When] Moses is talking to Jethro and Jethro says we all have a story, we just don’t know what it is yet, I  thought that’s really what resonates with where we are in high school,” Mr. Snelgrove said.

From Egyptian thrones to Midianite tents this musical retells the story of Moses which is a very well known story throughout the world.

“You can find this story in the Torah, in the Koran, in the Holy Bible, so one of the biggest challenges for me is that some of the technical aspects of this literally going to recreate what those faith groups believe were acts of God, so to make it believable, and realistic enough that it surprises or wows the audience will be important,”  Mr. Snelgrove said.

The show opens this November. Rehearsals have already begun. The cast cannot wait to perform!

“Come and be prepared to be blown away. I hope in some ways an audience can come and see the truth in an imaginary setting,” Mr. Snelgrove said.
