JV Bobcats Defeat Thunder Ridge for the District Title
This last weekend Madisons Jr Varsity went to districts, winning it all at Rigby High School against the Thunder Ridge Titans 58-50. Looking confident as they went into the championship game against the Thunder Ridge Titans who they beat the day before in a regular season game guaranteeing them the number one seed. The Bobcats came out strong in the championship game opening with a 7-0 run in the first couple minutes causing the Titans to call a timeout. With two strong juniors in Ben Dredge and Jace Taylor scoring most of their points in the first six minutes. With things going back and forth in the second quarter from there the Madison Bobcats took a five-point lead going into half time.
“We have to continue grabbing boards right there and getting defensive stops, the offense will come. We just have to slow them down on offense,” Madison’s Head Coach, Scott White said.
Coming back into the game and this quarter was the Titan’s quarter. Putting on a show with the Thunders Ridge player, Marvin Jones led the way with 10 points in the quarter. Madison down 10 going into the fourth quarter. The Cats weren’t going down without a fight. Nash Humphryes, a freshman, led the fight back with many in company helping. Nash had 17 points for the game. Madison fought all the way back to tie it within two minutes and continued the run and got a four point lead after Madison’s Kauner Eysser had back to back buckets on a fast break layup and a dribble pull up. With the Titans down they had to begin to foul. Putting the Cats on the line, which did not faze them. The Cats were able to knock down five of their six free throws from the line and were able to pull away to come out with the win.
“Super proud of the guys to be able to come back right there and beat a very good team in the district championship. Hope they enjoy it,” Coach White said.
After the game the Cats celebrated and got shirts for the amazing win. This was the last game for the Jr Varsity, but the varsity team plays in districts February 15th against the visiting Idaho Falls Tigers.
