The girls varsity basketball team started off the season winning most of their games. But it was a different story when they had to travel down to Boise and face the tough competition. They lost both their games to Borah and Centennials the first time they went to Boise, but the second time they went down and won 1 out of 3.

When they came back from Boise, they stepped their game up winning four straight, but then had to face the number 2 team in the state Hillcrest and lost by 15.

At the next game against Hillcrest they had to travel down to the Knight’s house, and again lost by 15. The Cats had 2 big loses that night. Losing the game by 15 was tough. But also junior star Alissa Wilson tore her ACL, the same ACL that held her back last year.

“Losing Alissa was huge, the whole team had to step up to fill her role, we have to go in and get more rebounds and get better down low to get better opportunities to score, and to keep our opponents from scoring.” said teammate Leah Dougherty.

When they played Highland at home they did very well beating them by 22, but when they had to travel down to Highland they lost by 19. They finished the season off great beating opponents 40 in the last two games.

Madison was 3 seed in the district tournament. They would have gotten the 2 seed with them winning against Idaho Falls and a Highland loss at Hillcrest. They did their job beating Idaho Falls by 35. Now they were relying on Hillcrest to beat Highland, but Highland won on a buzzer beater.

So the Cats had to face Skyline in the first district game where they beat them by 21. Then they had to travel down to Highland, where they lost by 19. It was a pretty good game and the Cats kept it close the whole game but they couldn’t hang on and lost 42-34.

“It’s going to be a long road to state” said Ryan Tyler.

The girls season ended against Idaho Falls at home. The team lost 35-32 finishing the season off with a 14-10 record.
