Tough Madison JV Girls Basketball Lose to Rigby

Heartbreaker! The girls JV Bobcats had a tough loss against the Rigby Trojans   Tuesday night on January 26th, losing 50-32. They came into the game fairly strong and held Rigby to just eight points in the first quarter. The offense on the other hand wasn’t a huge strong suit this game as they had only put up eleven points during the first half and another twenty-one points in the second half. JV Coach Gordon solemnly talked about how his girls have to get points on the board early on. “We gotta get some shots to fall. We had some good looks, but we didn’t get the shots early on that we needed.”

Even with a low scoring game for the Bobcats, the points all around were pretty even. Number 24, Payton Preator, put up the most points with eight in total, having two  3-pointers and one 2-pointer. She was followed closely by number 4, Mckenzie Reynolds, having six points in total, putting up three 2-pointers.

On the other side of the court, the Trojans ended up getting a fairly good amount of points each with number 12, Kylie Dansie, putting up ten points and was the highest scorer for her team that night. Another great player for Rigby was number 2, Brynn Williams, sinking in three 3-pointers.

The biggest killer for the Bobcats was the way Rigby’s defense played all throughout the game. Every time that Madison could get down the court, the Trojans kept getting steals because they had their hands up and took advantage of the passing game that the Cats had put up. Most of the points that Rigby had gotten were from the solid defense they had throughout. It was very tough for Madison to get through them as they would either end up accidentally stepping out of bounds or having the ball get stolen from them.

Coach Gordon expressed his thoughts on the way the Trojans play and said that they cannot get down early against Rigby. “If you get down, then you can’t just trade baskets with a team like Rigby,” Coach said. Gordon says that they will be practicing the same way this week in preparation like they did last week but just executing better. Although it was a rough loss for the Bobcats, Gordon was happy with the way his team didn’t give up even though they were down by a lot. “Their efforts are there every night and that’s a positive. I’ll take that over anything.”
