The drama council this year is putting on the musical “Singing in the Rain” for their fall show. Seniors Malia Barney and CJ Rawlins are members of the drama council and are super excited for the fall musical this year.

“I think it’s been going really good. We’ve had a lot of people working together a lot. The directors are really getting things pulled together and we are just working on our big dance number right now and we are supposed to get it finished by the end of the week,” Barney said.

Being in the musicals might seem like an easy task, but that is far from the truth. The cast has to labor long hard hours to put together such a great musical to perform for the students and other locals.

“We have to practice a lot! So a lot of people think that, especially the leads, all they do is practice at practice after school and that’s it, but with practice after school it usually goes from about end of school, so about four o’clock until six, so about two hours or so, but without fail, all the leads either stick around to practice dancing and lines and stuff like that or we meet together on like saturdays or just after school sometimes when we have nothing to do and run lines and all of our dances and just help each other out as much as we possibly can,” Rawlins said.

Barney is the president of drama council. She helps organize and help everyone in the musical to be prepared and ready for practice.

“Being the president, basically I just make decisions on the activities that we’ll do and I have to help run the talent show that the school does, that’s the drama council that does that, and so then I just lead the other members and I try to keep everyone in the drama department and other people who aren’t that are interested or just people in general, just keeping them interested and being kind to them and then just like getting people to do the same and just helping people to pull their own weight,” Barney said.

The play runs November 7, 8, 9, 11 at 7 PM in the Madison Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $4 for students and $6 for adults at the door.
