Madison Wrestlers Have a Successful Senior Night

Madison wrestlers had back-to-back wins against Idaho Falls and Skyline last Friday at their last home match. Madison wrestled against Skyline first, starting the night out with one of their seniors, Nathan Sanders, pinning his opponent in the second round. Madison’s heavyweight fought hard but fell in defeat.  After that, the Bobcats had four straight wins.

Next, Ikaika Jensen had a tough match and ended up losing by a fall in the first round. The Cats were able to come back with 3 pins from Jaden Smith, Tyson Clark, and Ethan Burbidge. Ending the dual was Tre Clark with a forfeit by the Grizzlies. Totaling the team’s points at 70-12 in favor of the Bobcats.

After congratulating the seniors and their accomplishments on the team, the Bobcats goes back to work on Idaho Falls.

Noah Ingram and Josh Benson start off the matches right, both boys winning by points. In the 126 lbs matches, David Wheeler had a very tough match, as Madison Head Coach Lords demands that he not get pinned, Wheeler pulls though and loses by points. Madison had an open slot at 132, and Idaho falls also had an open slot but at 138. Tyson Clark comes through for the team and sticks his opponent in the first round.

The match of the night was the 152 pound weight class. Burbidge started the match slow. In the second round, he was mat returned hard and hit his head. He pushed through, and by the third round, Burbidge was trailing 15-1. If he gave up one more point, he would lose by tech fall. But he did not give up. At the right moment, Burbidge struck with a headlock and threw his opponent onto his back and pinned him. The crowd went wild and so did his teammates.

Tre Clark, Sanders, and Jorge Diaz all came ready to wrestle. All of them pinned their opponents in the first round. Ending the night and dual at 53-22.

Lords said, “Tonight has been the best night of wrestling we’ve had all season, these past two weeks our kids have stepped it up in the practice room and tonight it showed.”
