Dance is an extremely popular sport for many students at Madison. We have the Bobcadettes and many out-of-school company teams that take a lot of time, money, and dedication from those who participate. They spend multiple days a week practicing with their teams.

“We practice three times a week, so it’s like ten hours,” Junior Anni Gardner, who dances for Dance-It, said.

The dancers prepare for competition season from the beginning of the school year up until competitions are over around March. Sometimes they start choreography for their dances as early as July.

“We start in August and compete in January, so we prepare for a long time,” Senior Sarah Gentile, who dances for Dancer’s Edge, said.

All the time and hard work put into dancing is extremely rewarding in the end. The dancers build friendships with the other girls, improve their skills, and have fun along the way.

“I like dancing with a team because we either do well together or we do poorly together, it’s not just one of us alone,” Gentile said.
