With girl’s basketball approaching, the players are getting ready and training for their upcoming season. There will be some familiar faces, and also some new ones. One of our players will be returning from an awful injury last year. Senior Tianna Orr tore her ACL during the first game of the season last year.

“I was playing defense and I went and my knee just popped and I didn’t know what happened. I could still kind of run but it was a really bad pain, and then I found out a few days later that I tore my ACL,” said Orr.

Your ACL, or anterior cruciate ligament, is one of the key ligaments that stabilize your knee joints. You are more likely to injure it if you play high-intensity sports like football, basketball, or soccer. It’s more likely to be torn if you do a fast or sudden change in motion.

After you suffer from a severe injury like that, you are usually out for the rest of the season. Even though you are out, it is still fun to watch and support your team, which is what Tianna did.

“When I was watching I was kinda sad, but it was fun to watch them, I guess. I just wish I was out there the whole time,” said Orr.

Having one of the key ligaments in your knee makes it pretty difficult to walk. After tearing your ACL, you usually need someone to help you get around and do things you can no longer do. When you have a friend or family member to be there for you, it makes everything so much better. Luckily, Tianna had her parents.

“They were really supportive, my mom did like everything for me. She took me everywhere I needed to go and made sure I was okay.”

Now that she has recovered for this season, we have another great player for our girl’s varsity team. Everyone has high hopes for the team this year. After being asked whether she was excited to play again, she said she was. The rest of us are also excited to watch them play!
