Lockdown, Lockdown, Lockdown!
This morning MHS students practiced what to do in the situation of a lockdown. Some students were evacuated and loaded on busses to go to Burton Elementary.
“When they came to our classroom, I thought they were just coming to check us, but then they told us we were evacuating. I think that was it was good to practice what to do in that situation because it was completely new to us,” Junior Baylee Klingler said.
What to do in a lockdown has changed a lot at MHS. Instead of staying in the school and hiding, administration now wants the students to get out if they can.
“We are constantly planning and having safety discussions [on what to do in the case of a lock down,] this specific lockdown, we had been planning on doing since even before school started,” Principal Bennett said.
As the number of school shootings increases, the more serious school shootings become. You never know when it could be. Students always need to prepare.
“When we practice, take it seriously and follow the procedures exactly because in a real emergency all those little details make the whole difference,” Principal Bennett said.
