How To Survive Being a Student Athlete
Keeping up with school during your sports season can be stressful. How can you balance school and athletics? MHS athletes had some things to say about surviving being a student athlete.
“It gets really busy but you just have to find time for homework and sports. Don’t get behind and don’t procrastinate doing your homework,” Junior Quarterback Jordan Porter said.
Being able to decide what’s the most important thing you need to do that day is really important. Having something that keeps track of everything for you is a nice thing to use.
“Set priorities focus on the most important subjects in school and get those done but also focus on your sports. I have a planner I use. I love my planner it helps me know everything I need to get done that day,” Senior Volleyball Captain Hannah Wilson said.
Homework is more important to get done. If you have homework be responsible enough to get it done instead of doing other things.
“Do your homework right after practice instead of hanging out with friends. Realistically we won’t be playing sports for our careers so grades are important,” Senior Football Player Joseph Dougherty said.
Sometimes it’s hard to decide what’s more important. Having a game and having a big project you need to work on can make you question what’s most important. Some would say you need to remember you’re a student athlete not an athlete student.
“Grades come first in my opinion what’s more important is your grades and your future. Sports should come second,” Wilson said.
