Districts are coming up for the cheer and dance team, but getting there isn’t easy. They must perfect their routines before Feb 18 for dance, and Feb 25 for cheer.

Preparing for districts takes extra practices and commitment to perfect mistakes. The cheer team holds extra practices if needed to reach their goal of qualifying for state.

“We’ve been practicing some days every week and we took our judges score sheet and from that we are trying to apply the corrections so that we can get as many points as possible for districts.” Senior Reagan Cook said.

It isn’t all that easy to qualify to state, teams must compete and place top 2 in order to qualify. Junior Emily Mackenzie explains how it will be more difficult for her team with the new rising 5A schools.

“Districts will be more difficult than it was last year because now we have Rigby, Hillcrest, and Bonneville, compared to last year when we didn’t have as much competition. So it will be more difficult for us, but I am excited.” Mackenzie said.

It’s not all about winning trophies or placing in the competition, sometimes what matters most is forming close bonds with your teammates and getting to spend quality time with them.
“Honestly the best thing to me about competitions is just being able to be with my team and just have that team bonding. It’s really not about the competition, it’s just about being with my friends and having fun.” Senior Maddi Lauritzen said.
