The Madison Bobcats beat  the Rigby Trojans 37-20 at home Tuesday night. There is always a rowdy and rambunctious crowd to be expected when these two teams face off.

“We felt pretty confident going into this game, because of how well we played the last time we met,” said Madison’s Kelsey Walker.

The first two minutes of the game went scoreless, until Madison’s Hannah Wilson broke the drought and put them up on the scoreboard.

The next few minutes were played very well defensively by both teams including multiple jump balls and turnovers. Day, Dougherty, and Wilson of the Bobcats combined for a total of 15 points at the end of the first quarter. Holding the Trojans to a depressing 5 points, the Bobcats jump out fast with a 17-5 lead. To start the 2nd quarter Madison jumped out even further with a 6-0 run.

Both teams struggled scoring on the offensive side with very low shooting percentages. Closing out the half, the Trojans go on a 5-0 run to make the score 25-10.

Rigby came out strong with a 4-0 run causing Madison to call a timeout to work out the turnover issue. Coming out of the timeout, few shots fell by both teams. Rigby, playing in a zone, was able to stop the Bobcats from scoring in the paint. Struggling from the 3-point-line, Madison was not able to hit a three in that third quarter.

Jazz Delgado and Hannah Wilson played scrappy and were able to lead the Bobcats to a 31-16 advantage at the end of the third quarter. Size was Rigby’s greatest advantage over the Bobcats. Their starting 6’3’’ post player, really hurt the Bobcats in the rebounding game. Coming out of the huddle to start the 4th quarter, all the Bobcats had to do was take care of the ball.
With another fast start at the beginning of a quarter, Rigby jumped out on Madison with a 5-0 run cutting the lead to just 10 points. 4 mins left on the clock, the Bobcats were able to execute very well on offense.

With the combination of Wilson and Delgado, more points were put up on the scoreboard. R

igby was unable to score against Madison’s tough defensive pressure the last few minutes of the game. Running through their offensive motions, the Bobcats ran out the clock to get the win over this school’s biggest rival. Madison’s win was because of their defensive effort. This was a great win and is a good confidence builder moving closer towards the state tournament.
