Several MHS musicians recently played in the Idaho All-State honor music ensembles in Nampa, and 2 of them were the top players on their instruments.

The Idaho All-State honor music groups take the best musicians from each school in the state and put them into a whole new ensemble directed by professors and professionals in music. They perform several intense pieces after only two and a half days of playing together.

Senior Fay Franzen was one of the 1st Violinists in the All-State Orchestra, directed by Nikolas Caoile from Central Washington University. She says it was an awesome experience.

“There you have straight practice. It’s really serious. I think It was 8 hours all together.” Franzen says.

She says she would recommend it to others who really like music.

14 Orchestra students from MHS attended the orchestra this year, and it was clear they had a really good time.

Junior Sophie Lyman was Principal Cellist in the orchestra, out of  other cellists.

“It was much more concentrated [than orchestra here]. [The director] was awesome. He worked a lot on phrasing.” Lyman says. “The auditions, you have to really polish them to get in.”
