A New Dance Style at Madison High School
With the Spring Fling dance being canceled this year, a new event was created to take its place. Madison called it, “Spring Swing.”
“It was awesome! It was my favorite dance of the year. It was also a more relaxed dance, but somehow at the same time, very upbeat and fast paced. I had a blast,” Junior Charlie Miller said.
Many people enjoyed this new style of school dance. Lots of things from the regular high school dances were much different including, a shorter dance duration of only two and a half hours, being held on a Friday instead of the normal Saturday night, live music, and the location.
“I loved that we had it in the gym where there was more space, and it was just so nice and vibey and happy. It was fun to be able to see friends perform in the jazz band,” Miller said.
The Madison High School Jazz Band and Swing Machine were invited to play live music through the duration of Friday’s event. The Jazz music was a good fit for the 1920’s theme.
“I loved performing at Spring Swing, the Jazz Band and Swing Machine has been working so hard for several festivals and other competitions to be able to play the music, so we were able to take from our repertoire to play for the jazz dance,” Senior Ethan Rennaker said.
The live music was truly a hit. With the change in schedule for the new dance students also noticed the benefits of it being on a Friday.
“Getting there at the start of the dance was good because there was little set up that we had to do because we did it at the end of school that day,” Rennaker said.
