The Madison girl’s basketball team lost to Rigby 59-25 last Friday night. Kambree Barber led Rigby in scoring with 18 and hit a milestone of 1,000 rebounds in a career. Rigby’s second-leading score was Kinzley Larsen with 16.
Madison was led by Mia Walsh with 7 and Roxie Backstein with 5. In the first quarter, Madison struggled to score the ball, only putting up six points. Their defense was good too as they held Rigby to 14–nine of those points came from Kambree Barber in the post.
In the second quarter, the game just got away from Madison. They weren’t taking care of the ball and had 6 turnovers in the second quarter. Also, they couldn’t buy a bucket again going for 6 points. Rigby shot well from deep hitting 3 threes this quarter to go up 30-12.
The third quarter was slower, as Madison was running a zone. Rigby put up 14 points that quarter, all coming off either the free throw line, fastbreaks, or open 3-point shots. Madison again put up 6 points. In the last three seconds of the quarter, Madison missed a free throw and Kambree Barber pulled down her 1000 rebound of her high school career. The score at the end of the third was 44-18.
By the fourth quarter, it was a mercy rule game. Rigby continued to get fastbreaks and Madison just wasn’t able to get a bucket on offense. The final score was 59-25.
Coach Sutton said this after the game, “ It’s kind of nice to get this game early in our district because it shows what we got to do when we play them again. It was great to see what we can do and we’ll clean it up for game two.”
Game two will take place on January 23rd at Madison High School, but the Bobcats can’t look too far ahead because they play Pocatello on Tuesday and Idaho Falls on Thursday.
“We just got to go get our Mojo back and get our hands more active on defense, because it leads to better offense for us,” Coach Sutton said. “We just got to take what we can learn from this game and move on.”
