Throttles pinned and the smell of two strokes. Lots of people enjoy extra curricular activities, but very few might say dirt bike racing.

“I ride a KTM 125 but before that I rode a KTM 85. For me the switch wasn’t hard because of my height, I was way too tall for the 85 so it was awkward to ride it,” Sophomore Jacob Ward said.

Lots of people have inspiration to ride and different reasons they choose to race, Wards’ is pretty simple but unique at the same time.

“My sister’s boyfriend at the time was riding and i thought, oh that’s cool! Then I started riding in 2017,” Ward said.

Ward competes in many races where he places highly, he has won new sprockets and other bike parts as well as trophies, But he enjoys the simplicity it takes to succeed.

“I like how it’s just me and all I have to worry about and rely on getting better is me,” Ward said.

The big names in Motocross are people like Ken Roczen, Ryan Dungey, Eli Tomac and more but Ward likes to watch people in the big leagues and our own backyard.

“I like to watch Jett Lawrence but someone that is closer to us is Kyler Brabec because he is really fast.
