5A State Golf Champion: Ashton McArthur
The past Friday and Saturday, Teton Lakes Golf Course hosted the Idaho 5A Golf state championship. Several high schoolers made the trip to compete at a chance of winning. Madison’s own Senior Ashton McArthur made the most of his opportunity and won the individual state championship with a score of 10 under par (-10).
With several years of experience all of the kids aren’t just amateur golfers. They have worked all season long for this championship.
“I have been playing golf for 8 years now,” McArthur Said.
Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus, even Rory Mcilroy are names that come to mind when people think of elite PGA Tour golfers but McArthur has a different opinion.
“Jordan Spieth has really inspired me to be the best golfer I can be,” McArthur said.
Coming down to the final putt, McArthur led by 1 stroke, he had 50 feet between him and the hole, if he misses it would’ve been a tie. When McArthur got to the green only one thing came to mind.
“Gotta make a putt,” McArthur said.
McArthur had been recruited and scouted by many colleges, but recently he has committed to Utah State University. I n college he hopes to achieve greatness.
“I want to win a whole lot of tournaments and qualify for the PGA Tour,” McArthur said.
Madison’s Boys team took 2nd overall behind Eagle High School, McArthur scored a total of 62, 10 under par.
