According to the recent General Conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the church will switch from a 3 hour church day to 2 hours to better accommodate young families and other members that have difficulty with 3 hours. This will affect 95% of the population of Rexburg on a weekly basis, including high school students. The changes will take effect in January of next year.

“I think there will be parts that I’ll miss,“ Senior Stephen Crawford said. “I’m grateful that I don’t have to be at church for three hours.”

Instead of the hour at church, the President of the church asked the members to hold an hour of home study, where they will study their scriptures at home. “I think it will be interesting to see how the home study works,” said Crawford.

Additionally, the president asked the women of the church, to hold a ten day fast from social media as a follow up from the previous media fast he asked the youth of the church to hold.

“Hearing him invite all the women of the church to do that is showing that it’s really important because he has already said it before. When someone repeats something, that means it’s really important,” Senior Abigayl Finch said. “The first social media fast benefited my because when I did it I was a lot happier and I was able to spend more focus time with my dad and I was able to build that relationship. And I was able to focus on my music and my writing. I did it for the time allowed and I really enjoyed it.”
