After the dance, on Saturday night, MHS students became victims in road rage from a local driver.

“We were driving down Pioneer road and there was this car that was tailing me pretty hard core with it’s brights on,” Junior McCall Dewey said.

No one in the car knew why this was happening. Soon after he started following them, he passed them and cut them off harshly.

“Kelton pressed the horn and as soon as he did that, the guy reached his hand out the window to signal us to pull over and I didn’t know what he wanted so I didn’t,” Dewey said.

They got to Maverick to turn left and the guy pulled up right next to them. He started yelling cuss words and telling them to pull over. Dewey ignored it and turned left.

“He also turned left and followed me all the was to Valley Wide and then towards the golf course towards Karson’s house,” Dewey said

This guy was still tailing them and turning his brights on. Then, he cut them off again and slowed down to 15 mph in a 50 mph zone.

“Once he got down to 15 MPH, I decided to pass him but as I was passing him, he matched my speed so I couldn’t get back into my lane and he was swerving at me. While this was happening Junior Kelton Williams was calling the police and Junior Karson Hastings was calling his dad,’ Dewey said.

They finally got into their lane and made it to the Hasting’s house. Once they got there, the police told them to go to Maverick. They found out the guy called the police on them too.

“Apparently we had thrown a rock at his car which we hadn’t. Both of us were at Maverick with the police,” Dewey said.

The police let Dewey and her friends go but chewed the guy out.

What you should do in this situation:

Officer Bovie said to first call the police. They’ll tell you to stay in a public area like Main Street and to stay on the line with the police. You can park by the police station if they’re still following you. The police will meet you at a gas station or somewhere public. Don’t drive out into the country. Drive the speed limit because when speeding, it’s more likely to get in a car accident and your more frantic.
