MHS Holds Annual Agriculture Expo

For two days this week, the MHS agriculture department held the annual agriculture expo, where they invite all fourth graders from the Madison school district to participate in learning more about agriculture and the opportunities it provides.

“We invite every fourth grade class in the Madison School District to come. The kids get to go through these lessons and experiences to give them appreciation for agriculture,” Mr. Wetzel said.

MHS FFA students participate in this event by teaching and helping the kids.

“They learned about tractors, the metal shop, and animals. We plant plants and learn about wood shop and what FFA is. The kids love it,” Junior Mckenna Roberts said.

The fourth graders learn more about the agricultural department through exploring different stations led by FFA members.

“I like to take the fourth graders around and show them all the opportunities FFA provides with all the ag classes here,” Junior Derek Widerburg said.

They’ve been holding this event for years and the teachers and students believe that it makes a difference for the fourth graders.

“Without agriculture we don’t eat or wear clothes, and so if we don’t have an appreciation for that, people won’t be involved in those industries. It’s a pretty cool experience  they’ve been doing for 15 or 20 years and the kids really like it,” Mr. Wetzel said.
