The Holiday Debate: Is It Too Early for Christmas?

Students share when Christmas songs and Christmas decorating should start as well as their Christmas favorites.
“I think after Halloween you can start listening to Christmas music. I think that we need to celebrate fall a little bit before we spend 3 months listening to Christmas music,” Junior Elena Hunter said.
Decorating, however, can be a different story.
“After Thanksgiving is when I think you can start decorating for Christmas because there’s still a holiday between, plus, my family gets real trees and we don’t want them to die,” Hunter said.
Others take a different approach to the holiday timeline.
“After summer ends you can start listening to Christmas music because after summer ends, I just think of Christmas, and I just start listening,” Junior Braden Jones said.
For some, decorating starts early in the season.
“By November 1st you can decorate because it’s right after halloween. My family usually decorates on November 1st. Sometimes we decorate early because we are really feeling the Christmas spirit,” Jones said.
Holiday traditions can make decorating even more meaningful.
“My favorite thing to decorate is our outdoor decorations, because on my street in our neighborhood, our houses play out the Christmas story, and each neighbor has a part of the Christmas story,” Jones said.
