With registration coming up fast, counselors are getting ready for the mass of students registering.

Since last year, registration has been easier for the counselors and students to manage. Counselor MiKelle Barney says that students are able to manage it through Class Choice.

“We have class choice again this year, students can go on and register themselves. After they register, it stays open for a certain period of time,” Barney said.

Registering for the next year has its highs and lows, especially for the counselors.

“I enjoy being able to visit with students; students always have questions about their grades and their transcripts. I like going over all the college counseling and career counseling with the students. I don’t love when students don’t take initiative and do it, because then we have to go and track them down,” Barney said.

The counselors at MHS like when students realize the opportunity of choosing their classes.

“I really like when kids take ownership of their future and get the classes they want to send them in the right direction,” Counselor Kevin Jones said.

Many things have improved in the past two years with the registration program.

I like the fact that we can have it open for a lot longer, I also love how we don’t have to have different sections of the grade level at the same time. We can have a lot more control in the prerequisites as well,” Jones said.

Many students like the new class choice program. Junior Wesley Jensen likes how it is more individualized.

“I like class choice because I don’t have to talk to people and I can do it myself,” Jensen said.

With a lot of positive feedback, there is also negative feedback that follows.

“I don’t like that I sometimes don’t get all the classes I wanted because I signed up late,” Jensen said.

For many students registration can be stressful, but for others it’s just another thing to do.

“I don’t really care about the classes I get so its not stressful,” Jensen said.
