Last Friday at 7:00 p.m., 14 girls participated in a new beauty pageant called Miss Madison. Miss Madison is a new MHS scholarship program that is very similar to Distinguished Young Women. The categories the girls could win included Poise, Fitness, Talent, Community Service, Scholastic, and Interview.

“My favorite part was definitely the practices because I don’t know, they were early but they were fun. And it was a good experience for me to learn about keeping track of all the stuff I need to do to be able to accomplish all this. It’s 3 months of work for one night,” Junior Hailee Galbraith said.

The practices might have been long and early, but the experiences the girls had were life-changing.

“I learned more than I ever thought possible. I loved getting to know each of the girls personally and making new friends,” Senior Kindra Skinner said. “I loved this experience with all of my heart and I wouldn’t trade what I learned and the friends I made there for anything in the world.” Skinner ended the night winning third runner-up.

Each of the girls put a lot of hard work and time into the program, but in the end, there could only be one winner. Senior Avery Stoddard is our new 2018-2019 Miss Madison.

“I loved getting to know all the girls and make some awesome new friends. Getting to walk in a pretty dress was a major perk too. I was also able to win, and I’m so excited to represent Madison!” Stoddard said.
