Remembering The Veterans of Our Country
November 10, 2017 members of the general public and MHS students and faculty gathered to honor veterans who have served, and are actively serving for our country.
“Veterans Day is a really good way to show our respect and gratitude to those who fought to protect us. I don’t have money to give them or anything, but I do have my music and that is my way of showing deep respect towards the men and women who have served and are still serving,” Senior Mason Cameron said.
Cameron, a member of the MHS band, wants to show his gratitude towards the Veterans. He respects those who protect the the United States and by playing his music in the assembly, he thanks those who served.
“I am really grateful that we had the opportunity to present the assembly at the school. We had a little time constraint, but I think we were able to pull off a good program. Veterans Day is personal to me and it was an honor to be here and represent members of my family who have served,” Chairman of the Board, Jason Evans said.
Evans announced the wreath laying ceremony, which many local businesses were apart of. The wreaths at the end of the ceremony are delivered to the Veterans Freedom Memorial at Smith Park.
“I thought the assembly was incredible and I am very thankful that the administration invited us to share our ninth annual veterans ceremony here with the students at MHS. We recognize three veterans today: WW2 veteran Harold Hill; also, two others from Vietnam and Afghanistan. We shared background on them about where they served and what they did in hopes to share why we need to honor our veterans. I think if you pass a veteran on the street you should thank them for their service. It’s a great day to be a veteran,” retired Lt. Colonel Robert L. Jones said.
