MHS Sports Teams Compete at State
All of Madison’s fall sports teams competed in state tournaments the past couple of weekends.
The boys soccer team this year did something no other boys soccer team has done before. They won the backside of the bracket with two wins and a loss. Winning the sportsmanship award is something the team is proud of.
“We set a record for the Madison boys team because we won two games at state. We played Moutain View in the Consolation Final on Saturday morning. The game was really tough and we went into penalty kicks and won,” Senior Soccer Captain Carson Meredith said.
Girls soccer achieved their goal of going into state with good seeding. The team ended up losing the first two games and were eliminated early from the tournament. They came home with the state academic award for 5A Girls Soccer.
“We lost both games but it was still fun because we worked hard. State was still a good experience,” Senior Soccer Captain Hannah Rowe said.
The girls and boys cross country team went to state and did very well. The girls team came home with 4th place overall and won the academic award for 5A.
“I think we did really good as a team. We were ranked fifth going into state, and we placed fourth overall. We wanted to get third but that’s okay. We’ve been working hard this whole season so state was really good,” Senior Cross Country runner Jessi Sutton said.
Girls volleyball had a good weekend taking home the third place trophy. Back to back years they have won third place at state. The girls are very proud of the way the played last weekend.
“We placed third overall and we got third last year too. This year I think it was more of an accomplishment because it was a lot tougher. I’m proud of how everyone played. I think everyone showed up. We all played really good,” Junior Volleyball player Chloe Miller said.
