The Madison Bobcat Boys Varsity Basketball team goes head to head against the Idaho Falls Tigers tonight in the MHS main gym at 7:30 p.m.
“The boys love playing at home. They end up playing better,” Coach Travis Schwab said.
This will be unlike any other game for Madison, it doesn’t count as a conference game. Idaho Falls went down to 4A this year; Madison stayed at 5A. The last time these two teams faced off the final score ended with Madison winning 68-59.
This year Madison is currently undefeated at 2-0. Madison’s first game was against the Borah Lions. Bobcats beat the Lions 68-30.
“The best part of last week’s game was how big the student body was,” Schwab said.
Idaho falls hasn’t had the same luck. The Tigers ended up losing to the Hillcrest Knights last Wednesday with a score of 61-57. Idaho Falls’ current record is one win one loss. Madison has been playing it tough by keeping a distance in points. This year Madison has eight seniors who have had the experience of playing at the finals in state last year.
The probable starters for MHS are Jaxon Edelmayer, Mason Downey, Nate Webb, Brandon Edelmayer and Konner Jackson.
“The player we are focused on is Jaxon Edelmayer. We have given him the green light to do whatever shot he wants,” Schwab said.
Madison has eight seniors and three juniors this season.
“These boys have earned Coach Hawkins’ trust,” Schwab said.
The Bobcats are ready to take on any challenge this season. They have been practicing skills and plays that the coaches know need improvement.
Idaho Falls has one player that stands out to anyone, Sawyer Storm. He has posed as a problem for most of the Tigers opponents. With Sawyer it has no longer become the Tigers against an opposing team. It’s now called Sawyer against an opposing team.
With Madison having Edelmayer and Idaho Falls having Sawyer it will be a great game.
