Senior Advice: Go out with No Regrets!

For many students, senior year brings excitement, nerves, and a lot of questions about what comes next. Senior Sophia Dummar is here to share her advice on everything from college applications to dating — and she’s doing it with her signature enthusiasm and heart.

“Anytime! It really depends on who you are and what college you’re applying for,” Dummar said when asked about applying to college. “I personally have been working on applications now so that I can get them done before the priority deadline because you have a better chance if you can get them done before then!”

Her biggest tip? Don’t procrastinate. Look up the priority deadlines for your schools and try to finish early — it’ll make the rest of senior year less stressful.

When it comes to planning schedules, Dummar recommends being open with your counselors.

“If you have scheduling issues there’s no harm in talking to the counselors!” she said. “They may say no or there’s nothing they can do about it, but no harm in trying! The worst that can happen is a no, so why not try?”

Scheduling also matters when deciding between in-person and online classes.

“Honestly, I would only take online classes if you’re looking to clear up your schedule,” Sophia explained. “Being around people makes life so much easier! But I do think it’s a great opportunity for people who don’t like being around others.”

Her favorite online class? Health.

“I don’t think I would’ve enjoyed being in a class with a bunch of high schoolers who can sometimes be very immature!” she said with a laugh.

When asked about her favorite teacher, Dummar didn’t hesitate to praise one who’s made a lasting impact.

“Mr. Philips is such a great teacher! He helps me broaden my perspective on life and knows how to play with us — like, really be a part of our learning experience,” she said. “He’s amazing, and I’m so grateful for him!”

High school isn’t just about classes, though. Dances and social events are a big part of the experience — and Sophia has strong feelings about those too.

“Honestly, this one completely depends on you,” she said. “This year I would say go to all of them! If it wasn’t fun, it’s truthfully on you because you have to make it fun! You’re only in high school once, so just go out with no regrets!” ❤️

For students looking for fun outside of school, Dummar suggests keeping it simple.

“Go to a park, bring a basketball or volleyball, invite friends, and just have a party!” Dummar said. “Even people’s homes can be the funnest places to be — hang out, meet new people, and make the adventures change!”

When it comes to picking classes, Dummar is passionate about learning — and her list of “must-takes” proves it.

“Anat and Phys (Anatomy and physiology), E.S. ( environmental solutions), Elementary Intern, Preschool, Cooking, Choir — so many!” she said excitedly. “And I know you’re going to think this is crazy, but MATH is so fun and a must-take class, for sure!”

Preparing for college can feel overwhelming, but Dummar encourages underclassmen to trust themselves.

“There’s not a cookie-cutter plan for preparing for college,” she said. “It’s going to be hard for everyone, but you’ve got this! It’ll be fun and hard and there will be ups and downs — but have courage and ask for help when you need it.”

And of course, she didn’t shy away from giving some heartfelt relationship advice.

“First, be yourself. Don’t pretend to be someone else!” Dummar said. “Be happy and supportive — and be brave! Push yourself out of your comfort zone.”

She shared her own story about meeting her boyfriend through tennis and learning to take chances.

“I didn’t expect to find one, but I did,” she said. “Be the kind of person you want to find, and look in unexpected places — you’ll find the best people ever!”

From college prep to confidence, Sophia’s message stays the same:

“You’re only in high school once,” she said. “Go out with no regrets!”
