Life After High School

Pretty much everyone understands the stress and fear associated with being in high school, but most students don’t really give thought to what happens next. A few of last year’s seniors give their thoughts on this.

“Graduating high school is an overwhelmingly crazy feeling, but what’s even more overwhelming is what happens the day after you graduate. You’ve been preparing your entire life to graduate and you’ve been dreaming about going to college for years, but nobody tells you what to do in between those two things. It’s really amazing, I loved high school but college is a whole new level of fun and growth,” Abby Roberts said.

She enjoyed high school and was a drum major in the band. She and her twin brother graduated last year and are attending BYUI this year.

“It feels so weird to be graduated. I’ve been going to school my whole life and now that is over, it feels like my whole life has changed. I definitely regret not doing things while in high school so for everyone still there, join a club! Take a fun class! Do something!” Bryan Roberts said.

He is majoring in Computer and Electrical Engineering, and after one semester he will leave on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints going to Jacksonville Florida. Lydia Lake is also going to be at BYUI and describes some of the pros and cons she faces with her new life.

“I’ve grown to love living on my own. College is very similar to high school except much better,” Lake said, “There’s no one to make sure I get to class and stay there, (although that never stopped me in high school) and no one to tell me what to do with the time left in my hands, it is nice to go to the gym at two in the afternoon and eat cold mac-n-cheese by the tv light at two in the morning, but I’ve also found myself procrastinating and having no one to get me out of my slump.”

Good and bad Lake has been enjoying her college career so far.

“I always told myself that as soon as I turned eighteen I was hitting the highway and living out my college dreams in some far away city, even though I didn’t end up living my leaving dreams, I still find myself loving my very different life in the very same town.” Lake said.
