Winter Arc

As temperatures drop, the winter arc begins, this means students plan to lock in this winter with the goal of staying healthy, motivated, and improving themselves throughout the winter months.
“Basically when the winter time starts, you decide a goal to achieve, and then you’re just on the grind all winter,” Senior Marcel Mema said.
Many students know what the winter arc is, but the amount of participation in the arc might surprise you. Junior James Patten has never stopped participating.
“No, you should already be locked in,” Patten said.
For Patten, this winter is just like any other time of the year because he’s always locked in. Here’s what got him motivated to commit to going to the gym and seeing progress this season.
“You just want to see your full potential, you feel more productive and more fulfilled,” Patten said.
Feeling productive and fulfilled is something everyone wants to experience, and you can accomplish this by going to the gym, which is exactly what the winter arc is about. So expect to see more people at the gym.
“A lot more, the winter arc, a lot of people show up for it,” Patten said
This also could depend on your gym and how many people already go to it. Mema had a very different take on gym attendance now that it’s getting cold outside.
“Surprisingly not, It’s actually in the summertime you’ll see most people in the gym, because it’s warmer, people want to get out more,” Mema said.
After the cold months of winter focusing on yourself, you tend to lose connections with people you would usually talk to, the reality of the winter arc hits hard.
“That’s why it’s a grind, you’re alone,” Mema said.
