Madison Choirs Take on Cali: Singing, Screaming, and Soaking Up the Sun
Madison High School choir California trip
This March, Madison High School choirs Bel Cantos and Musettes had the opportunity to go on tour in Anaheim California. The choirs did everything from singing in a cathedral, working with a professional choral director and singing with various choirs from other states. Not only this, but the students got to have a little fun as well. Energy was high the first morning as they made their way to the beach.
“The highlight of my trip was the ocean for sure,” Junior Ava Park Said.
They spent some time splashing in the waves and getting to know the other choirs.
“During the trip I got super close to Ruth Reynolds. She is the most funny, out of pocket person, I absolutely adore her,” Junior Maggie Linford Said.
After a short morning in the waves, sandy and all, the students headed to Knott’s Berry Farms.
“Something funny that happened on the trip was there were three couples next to us in line and they were making out and being really freaky,” Junior Max Morris said.
After a long day of rides the students went back to the hotel. The next morning the choirs woke up bright and early to head to a Cathedral for a performance, the tired choir students had the opportunity to sing at the Getty Museum and explore the art. Lastly the students sang for senior citizens in California and met some wonderful people.
“One person I met, her name is Helen, she’s 103 years old and she was so cool. She was very nice and energetic and lovely and she kept praising our choirs so that was pretty cool,” Junior Brantley Erickson said.
Monday Morning they headed straight to a choral workshop with Dr. Hazzard. There, they worked with several choirs from other states. The choral director was full of energy and helped the students remain energetic throughout rehearsals.
“My highlight of the trip was working with Mathew Lyon Hazzard, he’s a doctor at the university down there as well as his Husband Dr. Talberg. They were pretty dope and super cool. They have a 21 year age gap. They’re really nice and super smart and very fun to work with,” Erickson said.
