Michael Penix Junior, possibly a hall of fame QB, who was looked at as the 7th best QB in the 2024 draft. And you can’t tell me that he doesn’t have potential…

I am going to start with why he should have won the Heisman Trophy. Throughout his entire senior year at the University of Washington, he was the underdog along with his team. Especially when it came down to playing Bo Nix and the Oregon Ducks. College game day week 6 was Washington and Oregon. Michael Penix versus Bo Nix. The past 6 weeks everyone in the NCAA was coddling how good the Oregon Ducks and Bo nix were. Despite both teams being undefeated, the Oregon Ducks had about 70% chance of winning the football game. Then Penix and the Huskies ended up winning 36-33. Bo Nix before that game was the top Heisman prospect until Michael Penix had beaten him in that game.

Come the end of the year it was time for a rematch. Despite there being a record difference and a previous win against them. Washington was once again the underdogs and Bo Nix had made his way back to the top prospect of the league. Penix showed dominance against the Heisman caliber QB once again beating the Ducks 34-31.

Despite this, a few weeks later Jayden Daniels had won the Heisman award with Penix coming in second… but why? Jayden Daniels, lost all of his big games and one of them to another Heisman candidate QB Jalen Milroe who also happened to make the playoffs when Daniels did not. Every single one of his losses were 14 points or more and also lost to a Heisman runner QB. So I ask again, why Daniels? Penix, who beat the top Heisman QB twice, plus a complete undefeated, made the National Championship and got put under Daniels. All those facts alone make Penix a better QB than Daniels. I would bet if Bo Nix had beaten Penix at least once and had made the playoffs he would’ve been made Heisman. Despite this fact, Jayden Daniels ends up being the Heisman Trophy winner and Penix comes in second

Next let’s talk about Penix being a higher NFL prospect. Right now Penix is a projected 2nd round pick under Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, Jayden Daniels, and somehow even Bo Nix. Now I understand that each team is looking for something specific. Now other than Bo Nix I think those QB’s should have all landed in front of him as well.

Seeing that NFL teams are now looking more for a dual threat QB. However I do believe that he should be projected at least in the first round. I don’t think teams realize how much potential he has. I believe that the Broncos, Jets, Rams, and the Falcons should have taken Penix. If Penix would have gone to any of these teams it would be perfect for him. A lot of scouts say that he was too injury prone in college to be a projected pick over Nix. But here’s the thing. Yes he had terrible injury status in the past but he wasn’t injured a single game in the 2023 season. Also, if you take this QB in and let him develop for 2-3 years. You can easily make him less prone to injuries. He is also very accurate and has a cannon of an arm. In my opinion you can make Penix a huge part of your team through development.

In conclusion, Penix should have won the Heisman, and needs to be a higher priority list then where they have them. I promise you would not regret making him a first round pick. I believe that the Falcons really took advantage of their pick and blew peoples mind when they took Penix so early. Seems like they also see the potential in him like I do.
