The big game between the Bobcats and the Trojans was a tight one the whole way through, with both crowds showing out. Not a single seat open with people lined up around the track ready to watch a rivalry that’s been around for a long time.
The game started out with Rigby winning the tip, along with the first points of the game. The first quarter was very back and forth with each team trading shot for shot, but the Trojans led 15 to 13 to start the second.
The Bobcats found themselves down five midway through the second quarter before hitting big shots after Carter Lerwill hit a big three pointer to take the1 point lead.
Madison did keep their lead to end the first half leading 28 to 26.
In the third quarter it was all Madison up 12 after clutch shots from the stand out Freshman Wade Bailey.
Rigby was able to cut the lead back to six down 57 to 51, after the Trojans leading scorer Caysen Thomas knocked down 2 big threes to get right back into the game.
Rigby to start the fourth quarter kept the momentum going with Sr guard Braxton Miller hit back to back threes to tie the game up.
The Trojans hit multiple clutch baskets and even led by 6 with just under two minutes to go, but The Bobcats hit big shots including another Carter Lerwill three to tie the game up.
From there we went to overtime, tied at 69.
“It was a tough game, and a little scary at the end, especially going into overtime for the first time this year,” said Madison’s Kyle Orr.
The teams went back and forth in OT and with just 3.4 seconds to go, the Bobcats Nash Humphries went up for the game winning layup, and was fouled on the shot, sending him to the line.
He knocked down both free throws to put Madison ahead 78 to 76.
