Torey Parker: Champion On and Off the Court
Torey Parker, a junior at Madison Highschool in Rexburg, Idaho, is no stranger to hard work and
success. Growing up in a family of six, Parker has spent her entire life in the same house, in the same
area as a lot of her family, giving her a strong support system at every game. It is not uncommon to see
her dad with his beard dyed red to show support for the Madison girls teams. Starting basketball and
volleyball in 4th grade because her mom made her according to Parker, Parker has grown into a
standout dual-sport athlete with a list of accomplishments, including winning the state championships
back to back to back in volleyball.
For Parker, sports are more than just the games she plays, they’re about friendships and memories. She
loves the friendships built on and off the court, especially the lively bus rides with her teammates. “We
have a really strong bond and trust each other. That’s why we’re so successful,” she explains. As a self-
described “confidence booster,” Parker uplifts her teammates and helps everyone on the team stay
motivated.
Balancing basketball and volleyball isn’t easy, but Parker thrives under the physical demands, eating
healthily and staying in shape. She also credits her friends for helping her with schoolwork. Outside of
sports, she participates in 4-H, She likes to show steers in the summer at the Madison County Fair,
winning Grand Champion Showman and placing second and third many of times. When she’s not
working with her steer she is helping her dad with his cows.
Looking ahead, Parker dreams of playing volleyball at a junior college but ultimately sees herself starting
a family and focusing on life beyond athletics. Her advice to younger athletes is simple. “Don’t let one
person ruin the sport you love.”
With her determination and team-first mindset, Torey Parker shows the hard work, and a love for the
game.
