The Boys Take the Spotlight
By Emmie Blackham
Over many weeks a group of Senior boys have spent their early morning practicing and learning dance routines so that they can perform in a showcase coming up. They have all grown closer together and learned from each other while preparing for it.
“The hardest part is waking up early, that has been doo doo water. That’s the worst part, nothing else is bad,” Senior Preston Ballard.
Waking up for a zero hour was a challenge in and of itself but worth it. These boys have been able to discover hidden talents and be more confident in themselves.
“They are all pretty good, there is nobody. I learned that I am a pretty funny guy. And it’s fun and that’s really cool.” Junior Tillman Laefert said.
The majority of their practices have been learning dances choreographed by a group of Senior girls. Most boys that were interviewed agreed that learning the dances was a challenge.
“Probably learning all the dances because I have never learned how to dance and stuff so that’s pretty challenging. I like learning the dances it’s just hard and I like the chill aspect of it,” Senior Mason Dorman said.
On the night of the performance laughing, cheering and entertainment can be expected. Senior Preston Ballard says the dancing will be something spectacular to see.
“The opening dance is really really good. Kambria nailed that one and the other girls. That’s a hard question, the dances were all so well made. I really like silly dances, I think they’re so fun but only when it’s on a stage and one time. It is really fun to do dances. Every practice we said ‘I hope we get to do the opening number’ because it’s so good,” Ballard said.
As part of the show each boy got to prepare a talent. This too has been a bonding experience. They have been able to build better friendships with the whole group and learn little things about each other through the whole process.
“I have learned a lot about all of them. I’ve seen that all of them are a lot more talented than I realized,” Senior Max Seal said.
These talents can be anything just from talking with the boys it sounds like there could be some pretty awesome things all the way from drums and piano to magic. They are excited to dance and have a blast.
“I’m doing chicken, monkey, duck. You’ll have to watch. You can expect lots of laughs and men that can’t dance,” Ballard said.
