Bobcats rematch the Trojans
Last night the Madison Girls Basketball team took on the Rigby Trojans in a
defensive rematch as Rigby won 49-35. .
The game started off intense from the tip off with the Bobcats and Trojans
matching each other for their first points of the game. The rest of the First quarter was a
defensive battle as the Bobcats guards got on the stat sheet with a pair of steals. Rigby
answered the Bobcats defensive energy with 2 steals from the Forward Kambree
Barber. This defense from both sides caused the score to fall 5-9 at the end of the first
quarter.
The beginning of the second quarter Rigby came out with some quick transition
points but the Bobcats Maggie Anderson answered back with a mid range bucket
leaving the score 7-13 Rigby with 3:58 remaining in the Second quarter. The remainder
of the quarter was back and forth with Madison’s Tori Parker scoring 4 straight points,
but a small run led by Rigby’s Kambree Barber caused the Trojans to lead 14-21 at
Halftime.
The beginning of the second half took place with the Bobcats getting out in
transition after a defensive stand causing Rigby’s Kambree Barber to pick up her 3rd
foul. Sophomore guard Mia Walsh made both free throws. After a 3-0 run Rigby led
16-27 with 3 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. The final 3 minutes of the quarter the
Bobcats went on a small run before the Trojans answered back leaving the score 21-32
at the end of the 3rd quarter.
The 4th quarter consisted of lots of transitional play with the Bobcats cutting the
lead to 8 with 3:50 left in the game. Rigby answered with some defensive stands
leading to easy transition points, which left the score 32-45 with 1:35 remaining in the
game. The Bobcats went 1-2 from the line two times the rest of the game, causing the
Trojans to win the game 35-49.
Junior Guard Maggie Anderson explained what she thinks the team could have
done better to win the game. “I think that we could have done a better job of fighting to
have the ball more, I think Rigby did a good job of fighting for the rebound and I think
that getting more rebounds would have given us the opportunity to score more,” Junior
Maggie Anderson said.
